BONDURANT – Amy and David Stern and son Nick moved to Hoback Ranches near Bondurant 11 years ago to “retire.” But after a year or so, Amy decided to begin working at the Bondurant Post Office with former Postmaster LuAnne Freeman, who herself retired.
Now, nine years and many, many smiles and kindnesses later, Stern is retiring from the U.S Postal Service as her family plans a move back to their home state of Wisconsin. Dave and Nick will most miss the animals and wildlife, like the foxes that visited their porch.
“I’m going to miss all of these people, everyone in this community,” said Amy with a few tears.
Sunday evening, the Bondurant community gathered at St. Hubert’s Episcopal Church to wish soon-to-retire Postmaster Amy Stern and her family the very best of good wishes. The potluck was well attended and everyone well fed.
