PINEDALE – The spring soccer season came to an end for the Wranglers and Lady Wranglers with a doubleheader against Lyman and Mountain View on Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15.

On Friday, Pinedale, including several players from Big Piney, battled Lyman at an away game and came home with two wins. The girls’ varsity soccer won, 3-1, with boys’ varsity taking out the Eagles, 5-1.

Big Piney junior Jafet Martinez contributed to Friday’s win with a kick landing inside the net for a goal.

Both teams lost close battles against Mountain View, with the final girls’ score, 1-0, in favor of the Buffalos and the boys falling, 2-0.

Saturday’s lineup featured senior recognition, with both teams honoring the contributions of Big Piney seniors Maggie Davis and Edwin Gonzalez.

“Maggie drove to Pinedale every day for practice or a game,” said head girls’ coach Shanda Jensen. “She was highly committed this season and a joy to coach. She made a goal against Mountain View’s JV team, which was an exciting way to end her high school career.”

Gonzalez served as a team captain this season, said head boys’ coach J.D. Dudrey.

“When he is on the field, he is a great leader and director of the game,” Dudrey added. “He did battle injuries all year long, but he was incredibly tough.”

Dudrey stated that he looks forward to Martinez, a constant on the starting lineup, returning to the field.

“Jafet played nearly all game every game and brought a high motor everywhere on the field. Hopefully this propels him into next year and he can find the back of the net more often.”

Dudrey described Gonzalez and Martinez as “great young men” and was honored to coach them.
