Seniors get a wooly visit

PINEDALE — Residents at the Sublette Center in Pinedale had some special visitors Friday afternoon when Mary Pendergast from XL Bar Llama Farm brought a couple of llamas to visit and the residents enjoyed petting and getting to know more about the animals; a couple of people even received a kiss from the llamas.

Ashton McReynolds, who works at the Sublette Center, also works for Highline Trail Llamas, asked if the resident might like to visit from the South American trail animals and the Center jumped at the opportunity.

McReynolds and Pendergast loaded up a couple animals and brought some of the items made from the hair of a llama, including a beautiful, and very warm, sweater.

Jackie Christner, who enjoys spinning yarn, took a particularly keen interest in the animals, rubbing their fur coats and asking numerous questions about the process of turning the hair into yarn.

Mile Cranford got a special surprise when one of the llamas gently kissed him on his head.

McReynolds said the llamas are very calm and gentle but seem to have a deep fondness of children and seniors.
