Punchers win first two conference games


WIND RIVER – The Big Piney volleyball team started its 2A Southwest Conference season with a pair of wins Saturday.

The Punchers beat Wind River and Wyoming Indian in three games each.

Against Wind River, Big Piney won 25-16, 25-19 and 25-15.

The Punchers then beat Wyoming Indian by even bigger margins. Big Piney won the three games 25-14, 25-15 and 25-11.

Big Piney also played Lyman on Thursday. Lyman, however, took down the Punchers 25-22, 29-27 and 25-16. Lyman is 15-3 overall.

Big Piney is now 12-7 overall and also leads the conference at 2-0. Wind River slipped to 5-11 and 0-1 while Wyoming moved to 4-15, 0-2.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Big Piney will take on the second-place team in the conference, Kemmerer (7-12, 1-0). The game will also be part of Big Piney's Homecoming celebration.

After taking on Kemmerer, Big Piney will play each conference team once more before the regional tournament at the end of the month.
