MOUNTAIN VIEW – The Big Piney Punchers volleyball team went to regionals at Mountain View last weekend with hopes for some playoff time but fell to two teams that are going to State.
On Friday, Oct. 26, the Punchers faced Powell, closing out with scores of 25-7, 25-7, and 25-15. On Saturday, the young team met up with Lander on the court and lost three, 25-7, 25-8, and 25-7.
“It is not the outcome that any team wants,” said Coach Tiffany Carver. “However, Powell and Lander are both tough teams and both are headed to State, with heavy hitters and big blockers.”
Carver credited freshman Hanna Hansen, junior Rachel Foster “and many other ladies with several nice digs in the back row.”
“Hanna Hansen had some big hits this weekend to help change the momentum of the game to the Punchers,” Carver related. “Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for us to come up victorious.”
She said that freshman Sierra Keiter had a couple of stuff blocks, “While many other ladies were able to get blocking touches.”
The Punchers’ volleyball team put a lot of work into teamwork and communication this past season, which lays a good foundation for the young team of five juniors, three sophomores and six freshmen, with just one senior – Journey Jess – graduating this year.
