Big Piney High School senior Colby Jenks, pictured at the Puncher Invite, was chosen as one of the 10 finalists for the 48th Milward Simpson Award in early June. The Milward Simpson Award is the premier accolade for high school athletes in Wyoming. Each spring, the Simpson Selection Committee picks 10 finalists – five boys and five girls – out of dozens of outstanding athletes nominated for the honor. Jenks earned 4A All-State recognition in cross-country and 3A All-State honors in indoor track as a member of the Pinedale High School team. In outdoor track, Jenks received All-State awards in four events for a second year at State. The BPHS graduate broke the Wyoming all-class indoor track record in the 800-meters and set a new 2A state outdoor track record in the 800-meters, beating the previous record he set in 2022. Athletic directors and coaches throughout the region selected Jenks for the 1A-2A Southwest District Senior Student Athlete of the Year Award. Jenks graduated BPHS as the valedictorian for the Class of 2023.
