Man rescued after driving into Green River

SUBLETTE COUNTY – Sublette County Sheriff’s Deputies, EMS, Sublette County Unified Fire and Tip Top Search and Rescue successfully rescued a driver and two dogs from a truck partially submerged in the frozen Green River near Reardon Draw just south of Big Piney on Dec. 27.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, parties responded to the call of a truck in Green River at approximately 10 p.m. At that time reports included a partially submerged truck in the icy waters with the driver still in the vehicle.

SCSO released body cam footage of the rescue, which summarized the near 20-minute rescue down to 8 minutes, on Dec. 30.

The video began with responders shining lights on a truck halfway out in a stretch of Green River, water reaching the doors.

The video showed SCSO Deputies and Sublette County Unified Fire members assisted the driver out of the vehicle utilizing a ladder that extended ice built up next to the bank out to the bed of the truck. TipTop members arrived and safely rescued the two dogs still in the truck’s cab after several attempts.

Parties were finally able to pull the truck from the river with the help of a second tow truck called to the scene.

The sheriff’s office described working conditions as “zero-degree temperatures with ice and moving water.”

Circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.

The driver was taken to Pinedale Medical Clinic for evaluations after the rescue. SCSO did not identify the driver, although the man’s appearance is not blurred in the body cam footage.
