PINEDALE – Three hunters were rescued from the Wind River Range near Toboggan Lake after calling for help in the late evening hours of Oct. 9.
The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a call from the men who said they were hunting and became turned around when they lost sight of the main trail out to the Scab Creek Trailhead.
The men reported that they had food, blankets and winter gear but no shelter. The hunters were able to provide GPS coordinates to their location and started a fire for warmth until members of TipTop Search and Rescue could help the men out of the mountains the next morning.
On the morning of Oct. 10, Sublette County Sheriff’s Office deputies and TipTop Search and Rescue members headed into the area on horseback to escort the party out to safety. Search members located the missing party at approximately 1:30 p.m.
All parties were escorted out to the Scab Creek Trail Head without incident. The hunters were in the elements for longer than 24 hours and Emergency Medical Services responded to the trailhead to evaluate their condition. All three men were cleared medically at the trailhead and returned home.
