Last chance prepares Sublette swimmers for state

LYMAN – A Lyman meet on Oct. 25 was one last chance for the Sublette swimmers to qualify for the State meet in Laramie, Nov. 2 to Nov. 3.

The entire event was improving and preparation for State. Team results were not kept.

Prior to the meet, Sublette County swimmers had qualified in multiple events including Adalyn Bennett of Big Piney, Meleah Covill of Pinedale, Kaylee Day of Big Piney, Cassidy Espenscheid of Big Piney, Sierra Hattan of Pinedale, Natalie Hunt of Pinedale, Paige Nielson of Big Piney, Reese Noble of Pinedale, Darbie Paulson of Pinedale, Emma Rogers of Pinedale, Israel Seemann of Big Piney, Hayden Thoman of Big Piney and Mia Buchanan of Pinedale.

Sublette County sat out the 200-yard medley relay. The last swim for the team at Conference had Seamann, Hunt, Bennett and Rogers finishing with a time of 1 minute, 47.66 seconds, faster than the top team at the last chance meet that came in at 2:07.59.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Sublette County took fourth and fifth places. Hattan, Miriam Avila, Buchanan and Rachel Essington finished with a time of 2:05.61. Haley Noble, Paulson, Nielson and Lena Hatch timed in at 2:06.08.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Nielson, Muriel Jones, Noble and Adrianna Ruby finished third in 4:42.16. During conference, Hunt, Espenscheid, Bennett and Day had a time of 4:05.95. Hattan, Avila, Rachel Essington and Kinlee Green finished fifth in 5:03.13. The team of Britty Hill, Dana Wilson, Autumn Wright and Haley Rutsch finished in 5:35.35.

Paulson won in a field of five athletes in the 1-meter diving event with a final score of 174.4. Ruby had a score of 138.3.

Nielson placed third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:21.16, not enough to beat the qualifying time of 1:17.

Noble swam a 28.47 in the 50-yard freestyle and Covill swam 28.66, just off the qualifying time of 28.25.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Hunt placed first with a time of 2:15.89. Seemann came in second with a time of 2:18.29. Espenscheid finished fourth with a time of 2:23.67. Thoman placed fifth with a time of 2:24.11. The qualifying time for this event is 2:23.00.

Hattan led the Sublette County pack in the 200-yard individual medley with a second-place finish and a time of 2:43.36. Nielson placed third with a time of 2:43.92. The qualifying time is 2:43.00.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Hunt had a time of 59.87 to win the event. Day had a time of 1:04.78. A time of 1:04 was needed to qualify.

Jones won the 500-yard freestyle race. Her final time stood at 6:48.22. Espenscheid placed second at 6:49.73 and Thoman finished third in 6:57.18. A time of 6:38 was needed to qualify.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Wright placed fourth with a time of 1:15.34. Covill came in sixth with a time of 1:17.33. Bennett placed eighth with a time of 1:18.41. The qualifiying time is 1:13.00.

Hattan placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke to a time of 1:23.57. Dana Wilson finished in seventh place with a time of 1:33.73. Rutsch placed 10th with a time of 1:39.84.
