BIG PINEY – Big Piney High School (BPHS) senior Colby Jenks is not about to hang up his running shoes after he graduates this spring. Before school wound down for the holidays, Jenks signed his letter of intent to compete for the Weber State University Wildcats’ track and field team.

Jenks will participate on both the indoor and outdoor track teams at Weber State, located in Ogden, Utah. Running for the Wildcats’ cross-country team is also a possibility.

“I am excited to be able to attend Weber State University,” said Jenks. “I like the atmosphere and location of the school, and the coach has appealed to me as someone I would like to run for.”

Jenks intends to put in plenty of sweat equity preparing for competition at the collegiate level during his final months at BPHS and while serving on a mission for his church before entering Weber State University.

“I’ve heard that college is even more competitive than high school,” Jenks said. “I expect the training to become more rigorous as well. It will be interesting to see how much further I can push myself.”

Jenks added that he is “stoked” to run for Weber State University Head Men’s Track and Field Coach Corbin Talley.

“He seems like an excellent character and one who will give his best to each of his runners,” Jenks remarked.

Jenks plans to study computer engineering at Weber State University.

Jenks snagged gold in three events at the 2A 2022 Wyoming State Track and Field Championships – the 800-meter, 1600-meter and 300-meter hurdles. He placed second in the 400-meter and earned 2A All-State honors in all four events.

Jenks broke the 2A class record in the 800-meter at the state track meet.

Jenks also excelled his senior year running on the Jackson Hole High School cross-country team. He placed fourth at the State Cross-Country Championships in Ethete on Oct. 22, capturing 4A All-State honors.
