21st Annual WWSGS

About 50 horses – from “he’s so cute” to “he’s very handsome” – went through the Sublette County Fairgrounds arena sale ring at the 21st annual Western Wyoming Select Gelding Sale, Saturday, June 10. Sales manager Todd Stevie and Randy Steinke alternated auctioneering with bidders on the internet and in the bleachers. Plenty of sellers were returning as crowd favorites and local ranchers, cowboys (including women) brought their best horses. Many consignors and buyers took advantage of the ranch roping the night before to check out the horses of many sizes, colors and speeds.

The top-selling horse this year was the Selby family’s unique registered buckskin nicknamed Poncho, for $27,000. He came from the Rendezvous Ranch in Pinedale.

Next going for $25,000 was Mista Gunsmoke, a 13-year-old registered sorrel consigned by Virginia Gordon, New Plymouth, Idaho.

Two geldings brought by J Arrow Livestock, of Caldwell, Idaho, sold for $20,000 each: Tink, a registered 7-year-old lineback red dun and Hoppy’s Pride, a 6-year-old bay roan gelding.
