G&F confirms young calf is year's first grizzly kill

BONDURANT – Wyoming Game and Fish confirmed the first grizzly bear predation this year of a new calf in the Hoback Basin last week. The calf was one of many cow-calf pairs in a private pasture.

Game and Fish biologist Clint Atkinson responded and confirmed the kill by a collared adult male grizzly.

The bear was removed from the Upper Green River rangeland last year after cattle predations on public grazing allotments, according to large carnivore supervisor Daniel Thompson in Lander.

The male, who was relocated to the Cody Region, apparently left the Bondurant ranch after the kill and moved on, Thompson said.
