PINEDALE – Even though the primary election doesn’t happen until Aug. 21, the filing period for the general election begins Aug. 8 and continues through Aug 27.
Anyone wanting to file for a nonpartisan office can do that at the Sublette County Courthouse, 27 S. Tyler Ave, in the County Clerk’s Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. To run for an elected office, a candidate must be 18 years old, be a registered voter and meet the qualifications of individual offices, such as residing in district limits.
The Sublette County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees has four open seats. The term for school board members is four years. Two at-large seats currently filled by Jamison Ziegler and Chris Nelson are open. A Pinedale west seat filled by Charles Prior and the Pinedale east seat filled by Robin Schamber are also going to be on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.
Two years ago, no candidates filed for school board and write-in votes determined the board’s membership.
Sublette County School District No. 9 has two seats open, which are currently filled by John Fear and Glade Jones. Both will have to file for re-election to maintain their seats.
The Sublette County Rural Health Care District’s board has four positions coming up for election. John Godfrey was appointed to fill a vacancy until the election and that seat is open for a two-year term. Four-year terms currently filled by Chuck Bacheller, Laura Clark and Scott Scherbel will be on the November ballot.
On the Big Piney Cemetery District’s Board, four-year seats filled by Spencer Nichols, Frank Morrison and Margaret Kozeal will all be on the November ballot.
On the Upper Green River Cemetery District’s six-person board, seats filled by Wilma Shriver, Holly Thayne and Miriam Carlson are up for election.
The Sublette County Soil Conservation Board has open one four-year term for a rural resident, currently filled by Coke Landers. A four-year term for an urban resident is currently filled by Darrell Walker. There is also a two-year term, which was filled by Milford Lockwood when a vacancy occurred, that will be on the November ballot.
