Star spellers from Big
Piney and La Barge Elementary gathered for
the annual spelling bee on Jan. 31.
Dozens of students from both schools in
grades two through five put on their thinking
caps to spell a series of complex words.
Eleven advanced to the final round and three
were named champions. Fifth-grader Sakiusa
Meador was the school-wide champion,
while fourth-grader Abigail Pinkerton took
second place and fourth-grader Lyrik Peterson
came in third.
Meador, Pinkerton and Peterson will have
the opportunity to compete at the Wyoming
State Spelling Bee hosted by Western Wyoming
Community College on March 23.
“It was an exciting time for sure,” said
Principal Amy Bell of the afternoon.
