BPHS tracksters are sixth at Green River

GREEN RIVER – Temperatures are heating up and so is the competition in Wyoming high-school outdoor track. The Big Piney High School combined boys’ and girls’ track team snagged sixth place out of 12 teams ranging in size from 1A to 4A at the Green River Invitational on April 21 with 106 points.

Senior Colby Jenks captured gold in the boys’ 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 1 minute, 58.40 seconds. He defeated Reed McFadden of Lander by more than 6 seconds.

Posting a time of 15.02 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, Jenks earned first place in the event, finishing 0.15 seconds ahead of the runner-up from the host school.

Sophomore Micah Strong won the girls’ 200-meter dash finals. Clocking in at 27.20 seconds, Strong pulled into the lead at 0.30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Kemmerer. Strong also captured third place in the 400-meter dash at 1:03.70.

Strong, freshman Tilly Evans, sophomore Addison Losik and freshman Kodee Greene soundly won the 1600-meter sprint medley relay, beating Green River by more than 40 seconds.

Sophomore Kelby Staley snapped up second place in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, timing in at 47.60 seconds. He placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.46 seconds.

Competing in the long-haul 3200-meter, sophomore Emma York bagged silver in the event, hitting the finish line at 13:45.00.

Additional distance highlights included a third-place finish by sophomore Jolynn Jones in the girls’ 800-meters at 2:39.00. Jones came in sixth place in the 400-meters at 1:06.20.

In throwing events, senior Hannah Runyan snagged fourth place with a toss measured in at 32 feet, 3 inches.

Freshman Elizabeth Brandt placed eighth in the girls’ 1600-meters with a time of 6:31.53.

Jenks, senior Brandon Jones, junior David Farrington and junior Jackie Meador snagged third place in the boys’ 4x400-meter relay, posting a time of 3:58.60. Brandon Jones, Staley, junior Roger Young and sophomore Ben Ferguson scooped up third place in the 4x800-meter relay at 9:59.50.

York, junior Julia Hymas, junior Morgan Brown and Brandt pulled into third place in the girls’ 4x800-meter relay, finishing the event in 12:03.00.

Jolynn Jones, freshman Clairee Bingham, Brown and Strong took fourth place in the girls’ 4x800-meter relay at 4:49.00. Sophomore Mari Sambrano, Evans, senior Enna Coote and freshman Maybrie Denison earned sixth place in the 4x100-meter relay at 1:02.00.
