BIG PINEY – The Big Piney High School volleyball team is starting off its fall season with a lot of time spent on the road.
“The first two weekends of competition were exciting,” said coach Kim Tanner.
Contests took the Lady Punchers to the Riverton Tournament, Aug. 25-26, and then to the Wind River Invite on Friday, Sept. 1.
From there, they opened their conference volleyball season with an opening game in Shoshone on Saturday, Sept. 2.
“The Punchers sought out their first win of season play,” Tanner said of the senior-heavy team. “Strong serving, blocking and attacking proved to work for the Punchers.”
Last Saturday, the 2A Big Piney team traveled once again – this time to take on the 1A Cokeville girls. Cokeville took three games – 25-11, 25-15 and 25-20.
“We could not find tempo in our play and struggled passing,” the coach said. “But teams learn from losses. We are making some changes in our practice strategies and they are looking forward to their first home game against Pinedale on Tuesday.”
This home game will rock the Big Red Gym tonight, Sept. 12, with action starting at 4 p.m.
Then the Punchers head out on the highway over the weekend to the Thermopolis Invite, Sept. 15-16, and return the following Thursday, playing the Pinedale Wranglers in Pinedale at 4 p.m.
