Big Piney duo headed to rodeo National Championship

WYOMING – Jaspur Brower and Jade Espenscheid of Big Piney punched their tickets to the 2021 National High School Finals Rodeo after qualifying at the Wyoming High School Rodeo State Finals in Douglas on June 10-11.
Brower made his mark in bareback riding, taking third place after two preliminary go-rounds and the qualifying go with 176 cumulative points.
During the first go on Thursday, Brower earned 59 points and landed in fourth place. Bumping his score up to 60 points in the next ride, Brower moved into third in the second go on Friday.
In the short go, Brower received 57 points and a fifth-place finish.
Espenscheid and his partner, Coy Johnson of Buffalo, took sixth place after three go-rounds in team roping with a combined time of 44.96 seconds.
Hitting the ground running, the team took third in the first go, clocking in at 7.94 seconds. Espenscheid and Johnson came in sixth in the second go, roping the steer in 9.77 seconds.
The duo finished 10th with 27.25 seconds in the short go.
Espenscheid and Johnson tallied up enough points at the state finals to end the season ranked No. 1 in Wyoming for team roping at 390 points.
Brower finished the season in the No. 3 spot in bareback riding with 205.50 points.

Ryker Goodman came in sixth in barrel racing after three go-rounds with a combined time of 54.138 seconds. Goodman clocked in at 17.907 seconds and placed seventh in the first go, timed in at 18.521 seconds on the second go and went back down to 17.980 seconds in the final go.
Big Piney’s Cassidy Espenscheid and Richard Schouboe of Cora took ninth in the first go in team roping, timing in at 10.63 seconds. Goodman placed 10th in goat tying in the first go at 9.34 seconds.
Sharianne Brower took sixth place in light rifle with 243 points after two go-rounds. Cedar Stewart competed in barrel racing and timed her first go in at 19.043 seconds and 23.559 seconds. Stewart also participated in pole bending, clocking in at 27.28 seconds during the first go-round and 23.719 seconds in the second go.
