Punchers drop two tough losses at home

Piney junior Chancy Hunt grabs the long rebound against Wyoming Indian on Friday.

BIG PINEY – It was a tough weekend for the Big Piney High School varsity boys basketball team, as it dropped home games to Wyoming Indian and Wind River on Friday and Saturday.

According to head coach Nate Strong, his team struggled to play its best while taking on the Chiefs on Friday.

“We probably did not play our best game of the year and got down 10 at the half,” he said.

The Punchers had a hard time getting into rhythm as the game moved into the second half, although they were able to cut Wyoming Indian’s lead in half and ended the game with a chance to tie. Things didn’t swing in favor of Big Piney, bringing the game to a close with Wyoming Indian winning 62-58.

Big Piney remained at home on Saturday to take on a big, powerful Wind River program. The Punchers had a hard time containing the Cougars, dropping a 71-47 loss on Senior Night.

Despite the loss, Strong said it was good to see the senior leaders go out and play before the Big Piney crowd one last time. Seniors that will be graduating this spring and leaving the team include Kyle Walton, Tegan Hughes, Tyson Adams, Luke Hatcher and Jeremy Jones.
