Lady Punchers go 1-1 during final home games

Piney senior Paige Wright goes up for the rebound against Wind River on Saturday.

BIG PINEY – The Big Piney High School varsity girls basketball team earned a big win over Wind River last Saturday after dropping a tough loss to Wyoming Indian the night before during the final two home games of the season.

The team first took on Wyoming Indian, where Big Piney fell behind early and struggled to keep up throughout the opening half. Wyoming Indian shot out to an early lead of 15-8 in the opening quarter to take control, before going on a 21-7 run in the second quarter to lead 36-15 at the halftime break.

“The girls came out and played a much better second half offensively and defensively,” Piney coach Mindi Loyd said.

The coach said her team had looks in the first half that just couldn’t connect.

Big Piney made some adjustments during the break to come out stronger in the second half of the game. The Lady Punchers started knocking down shots to outscore Wyoming Indian 17-14 in the third, but it wasn’t enough as the visiting team picked up a 62-40 victory.
