RIVERTON – It was a busy week for the Big Piney High School wrestling program, as it grappled at a triangular in Pinedale last Tuesday, before entering into the biggest wrestling meet in the state on Friday and Saturday during the Ron Thon Tournament in Riverton.

According to Piney head coach Cole Clifford, the team did not put on its best showing during the meet against Pinedale and Lyman at the triangular, as the team came out flat.

“I felt we did not match the intensity of Pinedale and Lyman,” the coach said. “The other two schools did a better job than we did in competing and wrestled more aggressive than we did.”

The coach says every team goes through a rough meet each season, and after all the success they’ve seen this year, a bump in the road was bound to happen. All the coach could ask is that the team rev up the intensity and work harder at the Ron Thon meet in Riverton the coming weekend, which they did.

“I was impressed with how well we bounced back on the toughest tournament in the state of Wyoming with great performances from the 11 wrestlers that competed this weekend,” he said.

Big Piney had three wrestlers compete in the varsity division and eight in the junior varsity division. Both tournaments are a difficult feat, as 44 teams at the meet make for a deep field of talented wrestlers, the coach said.
